Enjoy Stunning Views Ballooning Over Coventry

Coventry is a city that has been through a lot of change. Once a centre for weaving and trade, it became known later for bicycles and cars, and then for the destruction it suffered during the Blitz. The old cathedral still lies in ruins, kept as a reminder, while the modern cathedral built beside it shows how the city rebuilt and carried on. Walk the streets and you see the mix everywhere — medieval lanes, post-war concrete, and new developments all sitting side by side.

The launch point is Coombe Abbey Country Park, a few miles outside the city. What was once a monastery and later a grand house is now at the heart of a wide landscape of woods, meadows and lakes. From the balloon you can often see the long avenue of trees and the ornamental water before the countryside opens up beyond.

If the breeze takes you south, the outline of Kenilworth Castle sometimes comes into view. To the east there’s Draycote Water, a large reservoir that stands out like a patch of glass in the farmland. And on some days, the balloon drifts back towards Coventry itself — from above you notice how green it still is, with parks and open spaces breaking up the housing estates, and the cathedral spire easy to pick out.

No two flights are alike. Sometimes you float low, following the twists of hedgerows and lanes. Other days the wind carries you higher, with views stretching across Warwickshire for miles. However it plays out, ballooning here shows Coventry and its surroundings in a new light — quiet, steady, and full of detail you wouldn’t notice from the ground.
