Warwick is one of England’s most historic county towns, its story dominated by the great castle that has stood guard above the River Avon for almost a thousand years. Founded by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, Warwick Castle grew into one of the finest medieval fortresses in the country. From above it is unmistakable: high stone walls, towers, and turrets rising over the river, with the town’s streets and squares gathered around its base. The castle alone makes Warwick a landmark, but the town is rich in Georgian houses, timber-framed inns, and quiet corners where the sense of history lingers.

Balloon flights launch from St Nicholas Park, in the very heart of Warwick. The park’s playing fields and riverside meadows make a calm setting for lift-off, and almost at once the castle comes into view in its entirety. From the balloon basket you see the Avon curving below its walls, the great keep standing tall, and the town spreading out beyond. Few views capture the scale of the castle and its setting so completely.

Depending on the wind, the flight might drift south towards the first folds of the Cotswolds, where stone villages and rolling hills catch the light. To the west, on clear days, the outline of the Malvern Hills sometimes appears. Eastwards, the countryside of central Warwickshire opens in a wide patchwork of farmland, dotted with church spires and small towns.

Every launch is guided only by the breeze. Some mornings you may float low over Warwick itself, close enough to trace its streets and gardens in detail. On other days you rise higher, until the castle and town become a cluster of shapes beneath you and the whole county lies spread across the horizon.
